Scholership Program

Scholership Program

TASMINA started a scholarship program in the year 2005 after TSUNAMI with four students. This project continuously grew in numbers with the support of many generous donors. We have provided funds for 60 undergraduates in Sri Lanka with a total cost of $ 35,000. This program is ongoing year after year.

Helping students to obtain a higher education is an urgent need among Muslim communities in Sri Lanka. TASMINA identified the need for this great service and implemented a plan with the vision of future success in uplifting the youth in our community.

Statement of the problem:

  • Underrepresented Muslims in Sri Lanka comprise of 8 percent out of 20 million of the total population, but receive only 3 percent of university education
  • Majority of the Muslim population can be categorized as poor so they cannot support their children for higher education
  • High percentage of drop out in junior and senior level of education leads to undermine the value of higher education among Muslim communities

Project Objectives:

  • Provide cash assistance to undergraduates who are less fortunate
  • Select appropriate students who will benefit from this program
  • Assist the beneficiary until completion of university education (4 years)

Benefits of the Project: (Short and Long Term)

  • The project will help the students to continue and complete their studies on time
  • The project will support the family handling their financial hardship
  • T he project will encourage young students and poor parents to engage in the field of education in the long term
  • The project will uplift the higher education among Muslims in Sri Lanka
  • The project will help students fulfill their dreams in life
